Annettes Place is a small grassy reserve on the Yarra River in Richmond, with easy access to the Main Yarra Trail. It is a local, social spot for a quick off-leash break rather than a big open run, and the river frontage is the draw.

The rules. Dogs must be on-leash within 10 metres of the playground and kept under effective voice control the rest of the time, especially near the riverside path where cyclists and walkers pass. Bring your own bags and clean up.

What's there. A playground, picnic tables and seating, and a rubbish bin. There is no water tap, so bring water and a bowl for your dog. Parking is available nearby.

The reserve sits right on the river bank. Keep an eye on dogs that like the water, and give the edge a wider margin after rain when the Yarra runs high and the bank gets slippery.

Quietest through the middle of the day on weekdays. Weekend mornings and weekday late afternoons are when the local dogs turn out.
