What visitors mention
Rex Hawkes Park on Russell Drive is a large, popular fenced dog park with separate sections for big and small dogs, an agility course in the large-dog area, and enough extra recreation gear that the whole family has something to do while the dog runs.
The rules. Off-leash is only permitted inside the fenced sections, dogs need a leash in the rest of the park. There's a single entry gate for each zone, so keep a firm hold on the lead as you go in or out. Owners must keep voice control over their dogs and supervise closely when it's busy, and waste needs picking up straight away using the on-site bins.
What's there. Expect covered seating and shelters, water taps, an agility course, a children's playground nearby, electric barbecues and picnic areas, plus a half-court basketball area and an artificial-grass volleyball space. Entry is wheelchair accessible.
Getting there. The park is on Russell Drive with a dedicated car park, though it fills up during peak times. Avoid parking on the grass verge after heavy rain, it turns to mud fast. Local bus routes run along Cedar Road, a short walk from Russell Drive.
Nearby with the dogs. Redbank Plains Town Square is about five minutes' drive away and has takeaway options with outdoor seating that generally allow leashed dogs, including chain cafes like The Coffee Club. Dedicated pet-friendly accommodation is limited right in Redbank Plains, so look toward Ipswich or Brisbane if you need to stay over.

When to go. Busiest on Sunday evenings, Tuesday and Thursday afternoons, and Friday afternoon through Saturday evening. Early mornings are quieter and give you first pick of the shade. Good for social dogs that enjoy a mixed crowd of small and large breeds.
