New Norfolk dog park

New Norfolk dog park, officially the Humphrey Street Reserve fenced dog exercise area, is a secure, grassed off-leash space in the Derwent Valley, about 35 minutes from Hobart. It's a straightforward local park rather than a destination in itself, but the fencing and double-gate entry make it a safe, low-stress option for a proper off-leash run.

The rules. Dogs must be under effective control at all times, even off-lead inside the fenced area. Use the double-gate entry properly so nothing slips out while you're getting organised. Dogs must stay at least 10 metres from the children's playground and 2 metres from the BBQ hut, and need to be back on a lead in the car park.

What's there. The area is fully fenced with grass underfoot, waste bags and bins provided, and a few unshaded benches for owners. There's no water tap on site, so bring your own bowl and water, especially in summer.

Getting there. The park is at 89 Humphrey Street, New Norfolk. It's an easy drive from Hobart via the Lyell Highway (A10), and street parking on Humphrey Street is generally straightforward to find.

Nearby with the dogs. The Agrarian Kitchen Kiosk allows leashed dogs on its outdoor lawn, and Circle Coffee House on High Street is another dog-friendly option in town. The Junction Motel is a pet-friendly stay if you're making a weekend of it.

When to go: weekday mid-mornings, roughly 10am to 2pm, are the quietest window. Weekday mornings before 9am and late afternoons get busier with the local regulars, and weekends are busiest of all.
