Muirhead Park Fenced Dog Park

Muirhead Park Fenced Dog Park, known to the council as Breezes Muirhead Dog Park, is a fully fenced off-leash area at 20 Mahoney Street in the Darwin northern suburb of Muirhead. Double-gated entry, separate large and small dog zones and roughly 3,000 square metres of flat grassland make it one of the most secure runs in the northern suburbs.

Leash status

Inside the fence is off-leash under City of Darwin rules, with owners staying inside and supervising the whole visit. Dogs must be under effective control, give other users space when asked, and be out the gate immediately if aggression shows. Dogs in heat are not permitted, and waste goes in the provided bins straight away.

The dog setup

The park is split into a smaller zone that suits agility work, behavioural training and shorter dogs, and a larger zone of open green for a proper run and socialising. Basic agility equipment, shaded undercover seating, water taps and bag dispensers are all in place, and lighting makes early morning and late evening sessions workable in a park that is open 24 hours.

Getting there and parking

Street parking sits on or near Mahoney Street. Darwin buses through the Hibiscus and Casuarina area get you within a short walk if you are leaving the car. The ground is flat and grassy, but between November and April the wet season turns low spots genuinely muddy, so towels live in the car.

Worth knowing

Mosquitoes come hard at dusk in the wet months, so pack repellent and shift your visit to morning. The build and dry season months, roughly May to October, are when this park is at its best: dry turf, morning light, and the regulars out in force.

Close by with the dogs

The Lakeside Drive Fenced Dog Park at Alawa is the other major fenced run in the northern suburbs. She Oak Espresso in Casuarina handles the post-park coffee, and Fresh Point Cafe pairs well with a Nightcliff foreshore walk on the way home.
