K.P. Hardiman Reserve Dog Off Leash Area

K.P. Hardiman Reserve is a 24-hour off-leash park on Gertz Avenue in Kingsbury, bordering Darebin Creek. The main off-leash zone sits in the northeastern section, with open grass suited to a ball-throwing session.

The rules. Dogs must be under voice control and supervised at all times within the off-leash area. Carry a lead and put it on before leaving the designated zone. Stay at least 10 metres from playgrounds and shared paths. Aggressive or on-heat dogs are not permitted, and you must pick up after your dog.

What's there. Seating, rubbish and recycling bins are provided, along with walking paths that connect through to the Darebin Creek Trail. Street parking is available on Gertz Avenue.

Getting there. Access is off Gertz Avenue, near the end of Separation Street. Local buses run along Gertz Avenue, and the nearest tram stop is Route 86 on Plenty Road, a short walk away.

Watch-outs. The creek-side ground can get muddy after rain, so expect a dirty dog on the way home.

Early mornings (7-9am) and late afternoons (4-6pm) are busiest with local residents. Mid-morning and early afternoon on weekdays are quieter if you want more room to throw a ball.
