J.H. Allan Reserve

J.H. Allan Reserve on Park Drive is one of Keilor East's designated off-leash dog areas, managed by Moonee Valley City Council. It is a grassy neighbourhood reserve where locals bring their dogs for a run, and it sits close enough to Milleara Road to fold into an ordinary morning walk rather than a dedicated drive.

The dog setup

The reserve is a designated off-leash zone, with the usual Moonee Valley conditions: your dog stays under effective voice or hand control the whole time, you carry a leash, and you pick up immediately with bags on hand. Victorian rules apply around the edges too, so dogs stay leashed and at least 15 metres clear of the children's playground, barbecues and exercise equipment. If your dog needs a fully double-gated enclosure rather than open parkland, check the current gate setup on site before letting go of the lead, and treat the off-leash zone as an effective-control area rather than a fence-and-forget one.

The vibe

This is a community park first: large open grass, walking paths, a shaded playground and seating. The dog crowd is local and regular, which keeps the mood easygoing, but it also means the busy periods are predictable rather than constant. Nuisance behaviour rules are enforced the same as any Moonee Valley park, so dogs that rush or jump get asked to leave.

Getting there and parking

The reserve sits on Park Drive, Keilor East, with street parking in the surrounding streets. Buses along Milleara Road and Keilor Road are the closest public transport, and the park connects to local footpaths if you are walking in from nearby blocks.

When to go

Weekends and the early evening stretch from about 4pm to 6pm draw the most dogs. Weekday mid-morning or early afternoon is the quiet window if you want space to yourself.
