Elliot Springs Dog Park

Elliot Springs Dog Park is a fully fenced off-leash area within Wadda Mooli Park, at 30 Elliot Springs Boulevard in Julago, roughly 15 minutes south of Townsville on the Bruce Highway. The full perimeter fencing is the deciding feature: owners can let their dogs run without worrying about the surrounding residential estate roads.

The rules. Dogs must be leashed right up to the gate and re-leashed before leaving the off-leash enclosure. Inside the fence, your dog must be under effective voice control at all times. If your dog becomes aggressive or causes a nuisance, remove it immediately. Pick up all waste and use the bins provided, and fill in any holes your dog digs before you head out.

What's there. The fenced off-leash zone is the core draw, with water taps available so you can refill bowls on site. Some picnic shelters and tables offer shaded spots to sit, though shade coverage across the enclosure itself varies. Wadda Mooli Park surrounds the dog area with broader amenities: public toilets, BBQ facilities, a 10-metre high tree house playground, a basketball hoop, and the Bindal Ridge walking and biking trail for dogs that need a leashed warm-up or cool-down.

Getting there. From Townsville, take the Bruce Highway (A1) south for about 15 minutes and exit onto Elliot Springs Boulevard. On-site parking is available. Public transport into the estate is limited, so private transport is the practical option.

Watch-outs. Saturday morning through Sunday afternoon is the busiest window, when you can expect a full enclosure and multiple dogs interacting at once. Weekday evenings, particularly Tuesday and Thursday, tend to be quieter, as are weekday mornings. For North Queensland heat, aim for early morning or late afternoon when shade is most useful and temperatures are milder.

Target a weekday morning or a Tuesday/Thursday evening for the calmest run, and always bring your own water bowl as a backup. Check the fence line and gate latches on arrival, then let your dog off only once you are fully inside and the entry is secured behind you.
