Bentley Reserve

Bentley Reserve's fenced dog park is the headline act at this Holden Hill reserve on Gentilly Street, and it is one of the better-equipped off-leash setups in the City of Tea Tree Gully. Rather than a simple enclosed paddock, you get separate small and large dog areas, agility gear to scramble over, and the wider reserve's courts and playground right alongside for the rest of the family.

The dog setup

The dog park is fully fenced and split into two sections, so small dogs and bigger runners each get their own space. Agility equipment includes jumps, a tunnel, a slide and logs to cross, which gives the visit some structure if your dog needs more than a game of fetch. Dual-use drinking fountains serve people and dogs, shaded seating is dotted around for owners, and footpaths make the whole area pram and wheelchair friendly. The reserve backs onto the Holden Hill Community Centre.

Off-leash time is limited to the fenced park boundary itself. Out in the wider Bentley Reserve parkland, where the tennis and basketball courts, skate park and cricket nets sit, dogs need to be back on lead. Council expects dogs under effective voice control and within sight of their handler even inside the enclosure, and bins are provided for clean up.

Worth knowing

Lighting here is minimal, so plan visits around daylight. Early mornings and weekday middays are the quiet windows; weekend mornings bring a steady local crowd and their regulars. There is no on-site cafe, but the suburb has a couple of coffee stops a short drive away if you want to build a morning around it.

Getting there and parking

The dog park sits at 23 Gentilly Street, Holden Hill, behind the community centre, with straightforward street parking out the front. If you are coming by bus, routes along North East Road and Sudholz Road put you within walking distance. Gilles Plains and Valley View shopping strips are nearby for supplies.

Close by with the dogs

Two local cafes make easy post-park stops: First Things First Coffee and Muddy Waters Coffee House, both in Holden Hill itself.
