Henleys Hill Park Fenced Dog Park

Henleys Hill Park Fenced Dog Park is a dedicated, secure off-leash area within the larger Henleys Hill Park in Earlville. The single defining reason to make the trip is the fully fenced enclosure, which lets suburban dogs run, train and socialise safely on open grass under natural shade.

The rules

Dogs stay on-leash everywhere in the general park and only go off-leash once inside the fenced enclosure, which sits to the west of De Jarlais Street and south of the car park entry. Owners are responsible for their dog's behaviour, immediate waste cleanup and keeping the dog under voice control at all times, and dogs showing aggression need to be leashed and taken out.

Close and latch the gates fully behind you on the way in and out.

Max: double-check every gate latch behind you. A secure fence means nothing if a gate swings open while owners are chatting.

What's there

Inside the fence you get open grassy terrain, trees for natural shade, basic seating and shelter for owners, a drinking tap for dogs and a small set of agility obstacles. The broader Henleys Hill Park adds a general oval, basketball facilities, an upgraded playground with a flying fox, and a toilet.

Getting there

Parking is available off De Jarlais Street with spaces adjacent to the fenced area, and the park sits close to Mulgrave Road, the main artery between Cairns city and the southern suburbs. Sunbus routes run along Mulgrave Road, followed by a short walk along Henley Street or De Jarlais Street.

Close by with the dogs

The Gamburra Drive Park Fenced Dog Park at Redlynch is the other dedicated enclosure on this side of Cairns, and the Mount Sheridan off leash area is the southern option. For coffee, Generation Coffee and Juice Bar is a short drive north.

When to go

Peak traffic hits 7 to 9am and 4 to 6pm on weekdays, plus weekend mornings; mid-morning and early afternoon are quieter. Bring your own waste bags because on-site supply runs low on busy weekends, and expect muddy patches after heavy rain in the wet season.
