Lawford Reserve Dog Off Leash Area

Lawford Reserve is a large, mostly flat community reserve between Lawford Street and Rathmullen Quadrant in Doncaster, beside the Tullamore estate. It is a designated off-leash area where locals come for a steady walk, a jog and a quick dog run on the open grass.

The rules

Dogs are off-leash on the open grass under effective voice control, following the standard Manningham Council off-leash conditions. They must be back on lead within 15 metres of the playground, BBQ and picnic areas, and leashed whenever organised sport is running on the oval.

This is not a fully fenced dog park. The reserve backs onto residential properties and nearby streets, so if your dog's recall is unreliable, treat it as an on-lead walk or head for an enclosed park instead. Carry your own bags and use the bins, and confirm the current lead zones against council signage.

What's there

Paved circuit paths loop the reserve, with benches and picnic tables along the way. There is a playground with climbing nets, a skate plaza, public toilets and BBQ shelters, so it works as a family stop with the dog in tow. A drinking fountain is usually on site, but bring your own water in summer in case it is out of action.

Max: the open grass is the payoff here, but with houses along the boundary this is a recall test rather than a fenced romp. If yours chases, clip the lead back on before you reach the playground side.

Getting there

Street parking runs along Lawford Street, Furlong Lane and the surrounding streets. It is very walkable from the Tullamore estate, and buses along nearby Doncaster Road put it within reach without a car.

When to go

Weekday mid-mornings and early afternoons are the quiet windows. Early mornings, late afternoons and weekends fill up with families using the playground and BBQs, which means more on-lead time for your dog near the play side of the reserve.
