Cygnet Recreation Ground Fenced Dog Park

On a quiet Huon Valley weekend the fenced exercise area at the Cygnet Recreation Ground is about as relaxed as dog parks get: a fully enclosed off-lead yard in the north-east corner of the grounds, near the woodchopping arena and Agnes Rivulet, where local dogs run while their owners catch up on the picnic table.

The dog setup

The exercise area is fully fenced, so it suits dogs that need a secure space rather than a strict recall, and there are small agility features plus a water bowl on site. Huon Valley Council's dog management rules apply: keep your dog within sight and close by, ask before your dog greets another, and lead and remove any dog that turns stressed or aggressive. Off-lead play is for the fenced area only; elsewhere in the recreation ground dogs stay on the lead, and dogs are not permitted on the sports oval at any time. Carry your own waste bags, as they are not guaranteed to be stocked.

Worth knowing

The exercise area closes when the main recreation ground is being used exclusively for an organised event, so check the ground's calendar around Cygnet's festival weekends before planning a visit. Outside event days it is a calm, local crowd, and mornings are the quietest stretch.

Getting there and parking

The Cygnet Recreation Ground sits on the edge of town, with the exercise area accessed from the Slab Road side of the grounds and parking at the recreation ground. Cygnet's main street, with its cafes and markets, is a few minutes away on foot.
