Jabiru Park Dog Park

Jabiru Park Dog Park sits inside the larger Jabiru Park sports reserve in Condon, in Townsville's northern suburbs. Its standout feature is a dedicated, fully fenced off-leash zone with a permanent agility course, which makes it a reliable run for dogs still working on their recall. Per Townsville City Council, the facility actually has two fully fenced spaces: a main all-dogs area with the agility course, and a separate small-dogs-only enclosure, backed by adjacent parking, seating, shade sails and lighting.

The dog setup

Inside the fence, dogs run off-lead with an agility and obstacle course to keep them busy, and the small-dog enclosure gives nervous or little dogs their own space. There are mature shade trees plus a shade sail over the owner seating, a water tap inside the fence for refilling bowls, and waste bins provided. Council requires owners to stay in the enclosure, actively supervise, and keep dogs under effective voice or physical control. Step outside the gates into the wider reserve and leads go back on.

Max: bring your own water bowl. The tap inside the fence is great for refills, but a communal bowl is rarely left behind.

The vibe

This is a genuine multi-use community space rather than a standalone dog park. The wider reserve carries a children's playground, baseball fields and basketball courts, so weekends bring families and sport crowds, while weekday mornings are quiet. The park is open access with no lock-up times, and lighting extends its use into the evening.

Getting there and parking

The park sits at 58 Gouldian Avenue, Condon, with street parking on either Gouldian Avenue or Jabiru Avenue running past the reserve boundaries. Parking is free and close to the gates. One practical note: the public toilets in the wider park are generally locked and only opened during scheduled baseball games, so plan accordingly.

Worth knowing

Avoid the afternoon and early evening in Townsville summer, when the fenced area can trap heat. Early morning is the most comfortable visit time and the park is generally quieter before the weekend sports crowds arrive. Bring waste bags as backup even though bins are provided, and watch your dog's interactions in the shared main area as you would at any all-dogs space.
