Griffith Park is a large, open, unfenced off-leash area on Pittwater Road in Collaroy, run by Northern Beaches Council, with 24/7 off-leash hours and direct access down to the calm water of Dee Why Lagoon for a swim. Its size and lagoon access make it one of the more popular off-leash spots on this stretch of coast.
The rules. Off-leash is permitted 24/7 within the park boundary. The park is unfenced, so it suits dogs with reliable recall rather than nervous runners. Dogs must be leashed on the surrounding shared pathways and on the adjoining sports oval, and owners are required to keep dogs under effective control and pick up waste immediately.
What's there. A water tap, waste bags and bins, bench seating, and an enclosed children's playground sit within the park. On-site parking is available next to the sports field, with toilets in the building to the east.
Getting there. Turn off Pittwater Road onto Anzac Avenue; parking is beside the tennis courts and golf course, right at the park entrance. B-Line buses stop along Pittwater Road, a short walk from the park.
Watch-outs. The park sits next to Pittwater Road, so keep an eye on dogs near the boundary. It is also largely open with little shade, so bring water and sun protection in summer.
Nearby with the dogs. Ciao Bella and Butterbox Cafe both allow dogs outdoors and are a short walk away, and the Bicentennial Coastal Walk starts nearby for a longer outing.

Weekday mornings and midday are quietest. Weekends and sunny afternoons draw a crowd, and the lagoon stays swimmable regardless of tide, though it's calmer when the tide is low.
