Springbank Rise Dog Park

Springbank Rise Dog Park is a fully fenced off-leash park off Hinder Street in Casey, open around the clock and shaded by mature eucalypts. Two separate double-gated enclosures split large and small dogs, and the terrain is the draw: a mix of grass, dirt and gravel plus a treed zone with natural boulders that adventurous dogs clamber over.

The dog setup

Both sections have water taps and bowls, shaded bench seating and bins at the gates, with bag dispensers on site. Dogs run off-leash inside the fence but must stay in sight and under voice control under ACT rules, and any dog showing aggression is leashed and taken out immediately. ACT registration should be current, and fully vaccinated puppies only in a mixing environment like this.

Max: bring your own water bowl for busy afternoons. The taps get a workout after 5pm on weekdays and the bins fill fast on weekend mornings.

Worth knowing

The mixed dirt-and-grass surface turns to mud after rain, so old shoes are a smart move. Lighting is limited, making this a daylight park despite the 24-hour designation. A playground and toilets sit in the adjoining reserve, and the park's popularity means a lively mix of regulars at peak times. Dogs that like terrain rather than flat grass get the most out of it.

Getting there and parking

Access is off Hinder Street with residential street parking nearby. Transport Canberra buses run to Casey Market Town, a short walk from the park gates.

When to go

Weekday mid-mornings and weekend middays are the quiet windows. Weekday evenings after 5pm and weekend mornings between 9 and 11 bring the crowds.

Close by with the dogs

The Franklin Dog Park adds an agility area a few suburbs over, and the Forde Dog Park offers a single large fenced run. Coffee afterwards is easy at Caffè al Lago beside the water at Gungahlin.
