Newbury Place Park Fenced Dog Park

The Newbury Place Park Fenced Dog Park is a large, mostly flat off-leash enclosure on Cribb Road in Carindale, open around the clock. At roughly three hectares it has more room to move than most suburban dog parks in Brisbane's east, with a separate gated section for small or nervous dogs and a recent council upgrade behind it.

The dog setup

The enclosure is fully fenced with a double-gate entry, grassy open fields and scattered shade trees, plus a covered shelter with seating. Basic agility equipment including ramps, hurdles and tunnels gives active dogs something to work on, and the small dog section got its own realignment in the upgrade. Water bubblers are on site, though the pressure is occasionally reported as low, so a backup bowl in the car is smart. Bag dispensers and bins run throughout.

Brisbane City Council rules apply: leads on until you are through the gate, effective voice or visual control at all times, close both gates behind you, and remove any dog showing aggression. Dogs in heat and unvaccinated puppies stay home. Clean up straight away using the provided bags and bins.

The vibe

Weekend mornings bring the regular local crowd, with Sunday evenings and weekday afternoons also busy; weekday mornings and late Saturday nights are the quiet windows. The open field holds midday heat in summer, so aim for early or late. One quirk: the Belmont gun range is not far off and can occasionally be heard from the park, worth knowing if your dog is sound-sensitive.

Max: three hectares of fence I cannot outsmart, and hurdles I definitely can.

Getting there and parking

The address is 61A Cribb Road, Carindale, reached via Creek Road, with free street parking nearby and wheelchair-accessible entrances. Bus routes along Creek Road put the park a 5 to 10 minute walk from the nearest stop, and Westfield Carindale is minutes away for supplies.

Make a day of it

For variety, the Carindale Recreation Reserve Fenced Dog Park and the Preston Road Park Fenced Dog Park are both in the suburb with their own enclosures. Coffee after the session works at WoodHouse Cafe over in Belmont.
