What visitors mention
Churchill Reserve Dog Park is a fenced, purpose-built off-leash area within the Churchill Recreation Reserve in Benalla, opened by Benalla Rural City Council in October 2023. It is a straightforward, council-run enclosure rather than a scenic destination, but it does the job well for a secure off-lead run.
The rules. The park is a designated off-leash enclosure, so dogs can run free once inside the fencing. Use the double airlock-style gates to enter and exit safely, since a single gate risks a dog slipping out while another comes in. As with any Benalla Rural City Council reserve, owners are responsible for cleaning up after their dogs and keeping them under control at all times. Confirm current signage on site, as council rules can be updated.
What's there. The park has perimeter fencing with airlock gates, three bench seats donated by local community groups, a water station with a dog bowl, and two tunnel and mound features for dogs to explore. There is shade from established trees around parts of the reserve.
Getting there. Churchill Reserve sits within the broader Churchill Recreation Reserve on the edge of Benalla. There is no dedicated off-street car park for the dog area specifically, so allow a little extra time to find street parking nearby, especially if a sporting event is on elsewhere in the reserve.
