King Street Dog Off Leash Area

King Street Dog Off Leash Area is a fully fenced enclosure within King Street Reserve in Balwyn, a straightforward, secure spot for a proper run rather than a scenic destination. The border sits close to Balwyn North, so some listings place it there too.

The dog setup

Off-leash applies only inside the fenced area; dogs go back on lead everywhere else in the reserve, including the surrounding sporting ovals. Inside you get open grass, a couple of shaded spots, seating for owners and on-site water, all wheelchair accessible.

This is a simple fenced paddock rather than a purpose-built dog park, so do not expect agility equipment. Boroondara rules cap handlers at two dogs, require voice control and no aggression, expect current registration, and bag dispensers around the council's off-leash parks are usually stocked.

Worth knowing

The enclosure sits close to houses and the ovals host weekend sport, so timing and etiquette matter more here than at a big destination park.

Max: check the ovals before you let anyone off lead. Boroondara reserves double as sports grounds, and a training session on the next field is not the time to be standing there with a dog that bolts at a whistle.

Keep at least 10 metres clear of the playground perimeter under council orders, and stay 30 metres clear of active barbecues, organised sport or public meetings.

Getting there and parking

The reserve sits on King Street in Balwyn with street parking usually available nearby. Buses along Doncaster Road and Burke Road stop within a short walk, and the route 48 and 109 trams are a reasonable walk away.

Close by with the dogs

For an enclosed alternative with more space, Gordon Barnard Reserve Fenced Dog Play Area is the pick in neighbouring Balwyn North. Afterwards, Tru Coffee Balwyn on Burke Road keeps dogs on its leafy rear courtyard, a short drive or a longer walk from the reserve.
