Table Eleven

Table Eleven is a casual, family-run cafe at 417 Esplanade, Torquay, sitting directly opposite the beach on the Hervey Bay foreshore. It is one of the better set-up dog stops on this stretch of coast: undercover outdoor tables, water bowls out, and a beach path across the road for a walk on either side of breakfast.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome in the undercover and footpath seating out the front, on a lead. Water bowls are provided, and the team has a reputation for making a fuss of visiting dogs. The outdoor area is roomy enough for a large dog to settle properly rather than perch under your chair. Keep the lead on next to the Esplanade though, it carries a steady roll of walkers, prams and cyclists most days.

On the plate

This is a proper brunch kitchen rather than a coffee counter: eggs benedict and generous salads are the regular picks, with fresh juices and the banana pancakes drawing repeat visits. Reviews consistently flag the portion sizes, so order accordingly. It opens 7am to 3pm every day for breakfast and lunch.

Getting there and parking

Free street parking runs along the Esplanade and the streets behind it, and a spot is usually findable even on weekends when the foreshore gets busy. Coming on foot with the dog from the surrounding holiday accommodation is the easiest option in peak season.

Make a day of it

The beach is directly opposite and the Esplanade walking track runs the length of the foreshore, with grassy patches along the way. Check the council signs for the leash-free zones before any off-lead time. Bayaroma Cafe further along the strip and Aquavue Beachfront Bar and Eatery are other dog-friendly options when you are basing a whole day on the water.
