Coffeetreat Torquay

Coffeetreat is a family-run walk-up coffee bar at 4/19 Gilbert Street in central Torquay, built for a fast, good cup on the way to the coast rather than a long sit. There is a walk-up window out front and compact inside seating, but the dog-friendly part is the footpath area, where dogs are welcome while you order. It runs 7am to 3pm weekdays, 8am Saturdays and 9am Sundays, closing mid-afternoon.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome at the outdoor footpath area out front, on lead. The team has a reputation for being easygoing about dogs at the window, but this is a grab-and-go counter, not a lounge: bring your own water bowl, since a small takeaway set-up will not always have one out. Order ahead on the Coffee Treat app if you want to skip the queue entirely.

Worth knowing

The menu is broader than the shopfront suggests: the standard espresso lineup with alternative milks and babycinos, a Torquay-exclusive matcha range in flavours like pistachio and banana cream, iced coffees and frappes, smoothies and shakes, egg and bacon toasties, loaded Turkish bread melts such as The Ranch and The Italiano, avo smash, and a cabinet of croissants, Gold Coast Cookies and gluten-free baked goods.

Getting there and parking

It sits near the Coles end of the Gilbert Street shopping strip. Street parking is available on Gilbert Street but turns over quickly in summer, when the town fills with surf traffic.

Close by with the dogs

The Esplanade and the beach are a short walk downhill, and the Surf Coast Shire rules there are seasonal: on Front Beach and Fishermans Beach, dogs are prohibited on the sand between 9am and 7pm from December to February and over Easter, with off-leash before 9am and after 7pm in that window. For a reliable year-round option, Jan Juc Dog Beach is a short drive along the coast, and the Surf Coast Walk from Point Danger to Bird Rock makes an on-lead leg-stretcher.
