Eddie's

Eddie's occupies the restored heritage Shepherds Hill Cottage at 41 The Terrace in The Hill, perched above the Newcastle coastline near King Edward Park and the Anzac Walk. It is part of the Noke Group's stable, pairing European-leaning cafe culture with a relaxed modern Australian menu, and the outdoor patio is dog-friendly, which makes it a natural reward at the top of a coastal walk.

The dog setup

Well-behaved dogs on a lead are welcome on the outdoor patio, where locals regularly settle in with a coffee or a long brunch. The heritage cottage interior is for human guests only, so plan on the outside tables, which is where the coastal outlook is anyway. Water bowls are not confirmed, so bring your own on warm days and check with staff on arrival.

The vibe and the food

The kitchen runs cafe staples alongside beer and cocktails, with gluten-free and vegan options: folded eggs with parmesan and chilli oil, cured salmon eggs Benedict, steak frites and tiramisu french toast are the dishes the coverage calls out. Hours run from 6am on weekdays and 7am on weekends, closing mid-afternoon, so it is a morning-to-lunch venue rather than a dinner one.

Getting there and parking

The Terrace sits along the headland above King Edward Park, an easy walk up from Darby Street in Cooks Hill. Street parking lines The Terrace and the surrounding residential blocks, and the free car park at the top of King Edward Park is the scenic option if you want to walk in along the cliffside.

Nearby with the dogs

The walk in is the warm-up: Bathers Way runs the coastline right past the door. For off-lead time, The Hill's dog off-leash area and King Edward Park's off-leash area are both close. If you are continuing to the Darby Street strip afterwards, Sanctum Cafe in Cooks Hill is another dog-friendly stop.
