Cafe Del Sol

Cafe Del Sol is a converted caravan cafe on the Safety Beach foreshore, pouring coffee and pressing toasties steps from the sand. The Bay Trail passes right by, which makes it a regular stop for walkers and cyclists, and the casual outdoor benches are where dogs settle in beside you.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome at the outdoor benches and tables next to the caravan, on a lead, with the sea breeze and passing Bay Trail traffic for entertainment. Water bowls are often out given the foot traffic, but bring your own to be safe. As an open-air caravan setup there is no indoor option, so it is a fine-weather stop by nature.

Worth knowing

The menu is short and fresh: coffee, smoothies, fresh juices, toasties and Turkish toast, aimed at a quick stop rather than a long sit-down. Hours run Friday to Sunday from 7:30am, so plan your foreshore mornings around the weekend or a Friday, and note the van closes in the early afternoon. Mornings suit it best, before the trail gets busy with cyclists.

Getting there and parking

Find the caravan at 81 Marine Drive on the Safety Beach foreshore. Free public car parks sit along Marine Drive behind the beach, and the Coastal Walkway brings you in directly on foot if you are already out with the dog.

Close by with the dogs

The Safety Beach foreshore is right there, with summer on-leash rules and time restrictions to check before unclipping, and the Bay Trail runs past the door for a longer walk towards Dromana. Tassells Cove is the local dog beach option, the Pier Street Reserve Fenced Dog Park handles a proper run, and Safety Beach Bungalows covers a stay on the same strip.
