Collins Lane Cafe sits in the colourful, mural-lined Collins Laneway off New South Head Road in Rose Bay, and it's one of the more genuinely dog-friendly cafes in the area, right down to a gelato made for dogs.

The dog setup. Dogs are welcome in the outdoor laneway seating. It's a relaxed, art-filled spot where dogs can settle close to the table on a leash. The cafe serves a "Doglato" for canine visitors, a nice touch if you're stopping with a dog in tow.

Known for. Locally roasted coffee from Adore Coffee Roasters, a well-regarded grass-fed NY strip loin steak sandwich, and fresh brunch plates, all set against the laneway's street art, including the Beach, Bark and Banksias mural.

Getting there. The cafe is tucked behind 716 New South Head Road, near the corner of Collins Avenue. Street parking on New South Head Road and surrounding residential streets is limited and usually time-capped at one to two hours. The Lyne Park public car park by the water is a short walk away and a more reliable option.

Nearby with the dogs. Rose Bay's dog beach is only metres away via New South Head Road, so a coffee and a swim pair easily. Lyne Park, right on the harbour, adds walking paths and views for afterwards.

Max's takegerman shepherd
parking gets tight fast on weekends, so if the laneway strip is full, head straight for the Lyne Park car park rather than circling.

When to go. Weekday mornings are easiest for a laneway table. Weekends draw a crowd heading to the beach, so arrive early or expect a wait.
