Pie & Pastry Paradise - Main Street

Pie & Pastry is a long-running family bakery on Main Street in Pialba, a few streets back from the Hervey Bay foreshore, and it has been feeding locals since before the esplanade cafes got fashionable. For dog owners this is a grab-and-go stop rather than a sit-down brunch: order at the counter, then settle at the outdoor seating out front with your dog beside you while you work through a sausage roll and a flat white.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome at the outdoor and footpath seating, not inside, which is standard for a Queensland bakery counter. The casual setup out front works well for a quick coffee stop, and there is usually room to park a dog out of the foot traffic. Water bowls are not guaranteed, so bring a travel bowl if you are rolling in from a walk on a warm morning.

Worth knowing

The baking is the reason people come: flaky savoury pies including a chicken curry pie that regulars chase, pasties, vanilla slices, continental pastries and fruit tarts, all washed down with straightforward cafe coffee. Hours run early, roughly 5:30am to 5pm on weekdays, 6am to 2:30pm Saturdays, and closed Sundays, which makes it a natural first stop after a dawn beach walk. Confirm hours before a long drive because the Sunday closure catches people out. There is a second bakery outlet on Old Maryborough Road if you are on that side of Pialba.

Getting there and parking

Set your navigation for 9 Main Street, Pialba. There is on-site parking plus kerbside spots along Main Street, and the CBD shops are all within a short walk. The foreshore and the Esplanade are a few minutes away on foot.

Close by with the dogs

The Pialba Foreshore Off-Leash Beach gives your dog a proper run before pie o'clock, and The Hungry Pelican Cafe up on the Esplanade is the sit-down alternative if you decide to linger. Sea Breeze Cafe Hervey Bay and Spotted Goat Kitchen cover the beachside suburbs to the south.
