Island Spice Cafe

Island Spice Cafe runs the morning shift on Sooning Street in Nelly Bay, the main commercial strip of Magnetic Island's biggest residential bay, and it has quickly built a serious local following despite being one of the smaller outfits on the island. The draw is the cabinet: homemade pies in rotating flavours, from honey mustard to a mango and habanero pickle curry prawn pie, alongside proper breakfast and lunch plates. Dogs are welcome at the outdoor seating, shaded by large umbrellas rather than fully covered.

Hours are Tuesday to Friday 6:30am to 2:30pm and 7:30am to 2pm on weekends, closed Mondays, and the venue confirms current hours on its Facebook page before you catch the ferry. Weekday mornings are the calm window before the ferry crowds land; the rating counts are still small, so treat the online scores as early rather than settled.

The cafe is at 55 Sooning Street, a short walk from the Nelly Bay ferry terminal and its car park, so visitors arriving by passenger ferry or the car barge can reach it on foot with a dog in tow.
