Mayhem At Machans

Mayhem At Machans is a laid-back beachside cafe on Machans Street in Machans Beach, a quiet residential beach community about ten minutes from the Cairns CBD. It is one of the more genuinely dog-friendly spots on the northern beaches, right down to a dedicated dog menu.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome in the shaded outdoor seating at the front of the cafe, where water bowls are provided and the counter stocks treats for well-behaved dogs. Keep your dog leashed or close by in the outdoor area; it is a compact frontage and tables fill quickly with locals and their dogs on weekends.

The vibe

The kitchen leans into brunch and cafe classics: eggs benedict, smashed avocado, burgers and fish tacos, with smoothies and a chai latte alongside. From Thursday to Saturday the venue runs a dinner service from 5pm to 8pm with an Asian comfort food menu, which is unusual for a small beach cafe and worth planning around. Café hours run 6:30am to 1:30pm daily, so breakfast and lunch are the core.

Machans Street sits in the beach suburb between Holloways Beach and Yorkeys Knob, just minutes from Cairns Airport. Free street and off-street parking is available nearby, and the flight path is far enough away that it adds character more than noise.

Close by with the dogs

The Machans Beach dog beach area is a short stroll away, so a coffee and a beach run pair easily. Up the road, Doppio Zero at Yorkeys Knob makes a second stop, and Strait on the Beach at Holloways is the dinner alternative. More dog-friendly cafes in Queensland or plan via Machans Beach.
