flo. is a small neighbourhood cafe on Joslin Street in Kotara with an unusually loyal local following, built on batch coffee, bagels and banana bread more than size or polish. It opens early on weekdays and dogs are welcome at the outdoor seating, which makes it an easy stop before or after a walk in the surrounding Newcastle suburbs.

The dog setup

A handful of seats out front plus a small courtyard out back are open to dogs. Inside is for two-legged customers only, so plan on the outdoor spots, particularly on weekends when the morning rush fills the room. Water provision on site is not confirmed, so carry a bowl rather than assume one will appear. The team has a reputation for being kind and community-minded, which helps when your dog decides to introduce itself to the next table.

Worth knowing

Regulars come for the coffee variety, breakfast rolls and the hash brown and bacon combinations, and there is app ordering if you want to skip the wait. The space is toddler friendly, so the breakfast crowd is family-heavy. Hours run 6am to 2:30pm weekdays, 6:30am to 1:30pm Saturday and 7am to 1:30pm Sunday, so it is a morning-into-early-afternoon operation rather than an all-day one.
