Mannheim Cafe

Mannheim Cafe is a small, family-run cafe in the Mannheim Street shops in Kambah, serving breakfast and lunch daily with an Italian-influenced dinner service on Wednesday to Friday nights, and a row of sheltered outdoor tables that welcome dogs. It is the go-to coffee stop for locals coming off a walk up Mount Taylor.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome at the outdoor seating in front of the cafe, kept on lead and under control while you are seated. Large plane trees shade the tables, which makes a real difference on a hot Canberra afternoon, and water bowls are often put out, though bringing your own is sensible backup.

The vibe

The kitchen leans homestyle: the egg and bacon roll has a following, cakes and pastries fill the cabinet, and the traditional pizza nights from Wednesday to Friday give the shop a second life as a neighbourhood dinner spot. The room is community-scale rather than a busy strip cafe, which is exactly what makes it easy with a dog.

Hours run from 8am Monday, 6.30am Tuesday to Friday and 7am weekends, wrapping up at 2pm each day, so it is a breakfast and lunch venue with the dinner service as the exception.

The cafe is at shop 3, 10 Mannheim Street, Kambah, in the small local shopping strip. Free casual parking sits directly out front, and the shops are an easy detour from the suburbs around Mount Taylor.

Close by with the dogs
