Lumen Coffee Lounge is a locally owned cafe at 13-15 Murray Street, East Devonport, a couple of minutes from the Spirit of Tasmania terminal. The reason to bring the dog: it has a purpose-built dog pen and deck, so your dog has a secure spot while you stay in sight through the cafe window.

The dog setup. Dogs stay in the dedicated outdoor dog pen and deck rather than inside. You can see them through the window while you order or sit. Staff usually put out water, and there are dog treats plus pup-a-chinos with sprinkles on hand.

Good to know. It runs on Leaping Goat specialty coffee and pulls steady praise for the brew. There is a kids corner too, so it suits families. It opens early, Monday to Friday from 6:00am to 2:00pm and Saturday 9:00am to 1:30pm, closed Sundays, which makes it a handy last stop before a ferry.

Getting there. Street parking runs directly out front on Murray Street. The cafe sits in the heart of East Devonport, very close to the ferry terminal.

Nearby with the dogs. The East Devonport waterfront and its esplanade walking paths are a few minutes away, and East Devonport Beach is a short drive for a leg-stretch on the sand. Check local council signage for leash rules before you let the dog off.

The pen is secure, but bring your own lead clip and settle the dog before you go inside to order, so a bark-off at the window does not start.
