Mập Mập Cafe

Mập Mập Cafe, also known as The Piggy Coffee, is a family-run cafe on Smith Street in the Darwin CBD blending Australian brunch with Vietnamese flavours. The drawcard for dog owners is the indoor option: it is one of the few Darwin food venues where dogs are reported to be welcome inside the air-conditioned room, which matters when the build-up heat makes footpath seating a test of endurance.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcomed by name and, by most accounts, indoors where the air-conditioning is. Cafe policies do shift, so confirm the indoor seating still applies when you arrive and bring your own bowl in case a water bowl is not on hand. The room is compact, so a dog that settles under the table rather than patrolling it makes everyone's morning easier.

The vibe

Quality coffee alongside Vietnamese-inspired brunch and lunch: pho, banh mi, katsu chicken curry and matcha lattes are the regulars. Hours run 7am to 2pm weekdays and 8am to 1pm Saturday, closed Sundays, so it is a breakfast-and-lunch venue rather than an all-day one.

Getting there and parking

Find it at unit 3/71 Smith Street, central in the CBD. Street parking around Smith Street and the nearby public CBD car parks both work, though weekday mornings fill quickly. On-street meters and the walk from any Mitchell Street car park keep it simple.

Close by with the dogs

Bicentennial Park is a few blocks away with walking paths and open lawns for an on-lead post-coffee walk, and Bundilla Fenced Dog Park at Fannie Bay is a short drive for a proper off-leash run. Four Birds Cafe ni Isabella is a couple of doors down the same street if you are cafe-crawling, and Perk and Palate on Mitchell Street covers the specialty coffee crowd.
