Watertank Café

Watertank Cafe occupies a characterful industrial spot at 16b Wilkinson Street in Ciccone, the light-industrial pocket just south of Alice Springs. The kitchen runs a full breakfast, brunch and lunch menu, but for dog owners the draw is the genuinely roomy, shaded outdoor dining where a dog is part of the picture rather than a problem.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome across the outdoor seating areas, which are properly shaded for Central Australian mornings rather than token umbrellas over hot pavers. There is space between tables for a dog to settle, and the mix of indoor and outdoor rooms means you can pick a corner that works. Bring a water bowl as backup; staff are used to dogs but busy services run hot.

The vibe

The building is upcycled and the decor is eclectic, with plants, handmade stock from regional makers, and occasional live music from local singer-songwriters. The menu leans fresh and generous: the brioche bun, chicken crepe and smashed avo get singled out, vegan options are marked, and the coffee is taken seriously, including a ginger turmeric latte.

Pepsi: claim a shaded table on the outer edge, loop the lead to the chair leg and order the chicken crepe. This is one of those patios where a settled dog is simply part of the furniture.

Getting there and parking

It is a few minutes' drive from the Alice Springs town centre, with free parking on site and street parking around the Ciccone industrial blocks. Hours run 7:30am to 2pm Monday, Wednesday to Friday and 8am to 2pm weekends, closed Tuesdays.
