Spicy Bean Cafe

Spicy Bean Cafe sits at 1 Mandala Parade in Castle Hill, directly opposite Hills Showground Metro, and it is a cafe with a purpose: a social enterprise that trains and employs young people and people with disability. Dogs are welcome in the outdoor seating, and the Metro station out front makes it one of the easiest cafe stops in The Hills to reach without a car.

The dog setup

Dogs join you in the outdoor tables along the front of the cafe, a short walk across from the station plaza. Ask for an outside table when you arrive so staff know to seat you there, keep your dog on lead beside the chair, and bring water on warmer days rather than counting on a bowl. The plaza setting is compact, so a settled dog suits the space better than a restless one at peak times.

The vibe and the menu

The menu leans modern Australian with a bit of everything: halloumi fries, fish tacos, burrito bowls and a broad breakfast list. Live music and jazz nights run through the evening sessions on Thursday to Saturday, when hours stretch to 8pm or later. Closed Mondays. Weekday mornings open early at 6am for commuters, and the cafe doubles as a small community hub with local art on show.

Getting there and parking

Hills Showground Metro is directly across the road on the Sydney Metro Northwest line, which is the simplest way in. If you are driving, there is parking around the Mandala Parade precinct and the adjoining showground area. The Hills Showground event grounds next door host markets and events through the year, though check whether dogs are allowed on event days before bringing yours along.

Close by with the dogs

The Coolong Reserve fenced dog park is the local off-lead run, and the Bidjigal Reserve Platypus Track is a proper bushwalk for an on-lead morning out. Beanmeister Cafe is another dog-friendly coffee option in Castle Hill.
