Queenie Bakery is a family-run Vietnamese bakery at Shop 13, 171 Queen Street in central Campbelltown, best known for banh mi with proper crackling. It is a grab-and-go bakery rather than a sit-down cafe, so the play with a dog is simple: order at the counter, then take the roll somewhere leafy to eat it.

As a working food premises, dogs cannot come inside, which is standard NSW health rules rather than anything specific to this shop. The footpath out front works for a short wait on lead while you order, and there is no dog menu or water bowls, so carry your own water. Go before or after the lunch rush and the whole thing takes five minutes.

What to order

The crispy pork banh mi is the reason people cross town, with crackling on a crusty baguette, and there are chicken and Vietnamese tuna rolls alongside it. The Australian side of the cabinet holds its own too: classic pies including a black pepper beef, sausage rolls, cheese and bacon rolls and coconut buns, with Vietnamese iced coffee and fresh cane juice with lemon and ginger to drink. Hours are 7:30am to 4:30pm Monday to Friday, 7:30am to 3:30pm Saturday, closed Sunday.

Eating it nearby

Koshigaya Park on Hurley Street is a few minutes' walk and is a good spot to unwrap the bag, though under Campbelltown City Council rules it is an on-leash park, so keep the lead on while you eat. For a proper off-leash run beforehand, Baden Powell Reserve in Bradbury is a short drive, a fully fenced dog facility with double-gated entry and agility gear.
