Cafe Without A Name is a rustic, warehouse-style cafe on McCauley Street in Alexandria, set back from the main roads under a stand of trees, with seating that is largely outdoors. It is an easy spot to bring a dog for a fast, affordable coffee and roll before work, and the weekday-morning crowd treats it accordingly.

Seating is primarily outdoors at pallet tables and chairs under the trees, which makes the setup naturally dog-friendly. Keep your dog on a lead beside you; the space is compact and the breakfast queue moves through it. Water bowls are often around given the outdoor layout, but carry your own on busier mornings. Weekend visitors take note: it trades weekdays only.

The food and hours

The name is the point: no fuss, just a very good, affordable bacon and egg roll and decent coffee at prices below the trendier cafes a few streets over. Reviewers praise the Turkish bread rolls and the baristas. It runs 6am to 2pm Monday to Friday and closes on weekends, so it is a breakfast and coffee stop rather than a brunch sit-down.

Getting there and parking

Find it at 50 McCauley Street, on the edge of the Alexandria industrial area. Street parking is available on the surrounding streets but tightens during business hours; with Sydney Park a short walk away, many dog owners simply park near the park and walk over.

Sydney Park pairs perfectly: its off-leash zones are open at all times and rank among the largest dog areas in the inner city, with wetlands, ovals and paths to lap. Dogs stay out of the wetlands, playgrounds and the cycling centre, and must be leashed until you reach the signed off-leash zones.
