Marks Point Dog Exercise Area

Marks Point Dog Exercise Area (Haddon Crescent Reserve) is an unfenced grassy reserve at 34 Haddon Crescent, Marks Point, open for off-leash exercise 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It is a basic, no-frills spot best suited to a quick run rather than a destination visit.

The rules. Off-leash is permitted around the clock, but the reserve is completely unfenced, so dogs need to be under effective voice control at all times. Keep dogs out of the playground area, where a buffer of around 10 metres generally applies, and note that nearby Naru Beach is an on-leash area, not off-leash like this reserve. Fines apply for off-leash dogs in on-leash zones, so do not assume the rules carry over. Bins are provided, but bring your own bags as backup.

What's there. Facilities are minimal. There are no confirmed water taps, shade structures, toilets or seating, and the park is not lit, so it is a daytime-only spot. Bring your own water bowl if you are staying more than a few minutes, especially in warmer months.

Getting there. Free on-street parking is plentiful on the surrounding residential streets. There is no public transport directly to Haddon Crescent, the nearest stops are on the Pacific Highway, a short walk away.

Nearby with the dogs. Naru Beach, a few minutes away, is a shallow spot on Lake Macquarie where leashed dogs can wade and paddle. Belmont's cafe strip, about a five-minute drive, has several dog-friendly outdoor seating options for a coffee afterwards.

When to go. Locals tend to use this reserve early morning or late afternoon, which also avoids the worst of the sun given the lack of shade. Good for a fast, functional off-leash stop rather than a lingering visit. Confirm current rules on the Lake Macquarie City Council signage on arrival, as conditions can change.
