Toolern Creek Trail

Toolern Creek Trail follows the creek through Melton South on a flat, sealed shared path, and kangaroos are often spotted along its grassy banks. Dogs are welcome on a lead.

Lead rules

Melton City Council requires dogs on lead along the shared trail and in public park areas. Off-lead running is limited to the council's designated reserves.

Max: Kangaroos graze along this creek. Keep the lead short and your dog's attention on you when you spot one.

The walk

The path runs past native creekside plants and open grassy banks, then through a mix of suburban and industrial edges. Trees give partial shade, but some stretches sit in full sun.

The Toolern Creek parkrun uses the trail on Saturday mornings, and single dogs can join on short leads that do not extend.

Getting started

Parking is easiest near the Bridge Road athletics and hockey facility, which also has bins. Water on the remoter sections is limited, so carry a bottle and bowl.

Fraser Street Reserve Fenced Dog Park is close by for a safe off-lead run, and Navan Park Fenced Dog Park in Melton West has separate enclosures, a water tap and seating.

When to go

Skip Saturday morning if you want the path to yourself. Flat and easy, it suits older dogs and casual walkers.
