Tom Bateman Reserve

Tom Bateman Reserve sits in Thornlie on the Beckenham side, where a sporting complex backs onto a wetland full of birdlife. It is a flat, straightforward on-lead loop with free parking at the door.

Lead rules

The City of Gosnells requires dogs on a lead throughout the reserve and along the wetland trail.

The walk

Paths are hard and flat, a mix of crushed limestone, concrete and paved sections. The route passes open water, the sporting ovals and plenty of birdlife.

The wide dual-use paths leave room to pass other walkers without bottlenecks, which suits a steady morning or evening loop.

Getting started

Free car parking sits next to the sporting complex off Wilfred Road. Barbecues and toilets are near the main complex, with bins around the clubrooms.

Bring water and a bowl, as dog-height drinking points are sparse on the outer paths.

Make a day of it

For an off-lead run, Beckenham Dog Park is not far away.

When to go

Mature trees shade the edges, but the central stretches across the ovals are fully exposed. Go early or late on warm days.
