The Crossing Place Trail

The Crossing Place Trail on Gateway Island, between Wodonga and the Murray, is a shaded river walk where dogs can reach the water. Keep the lead handy, as this is not an off-lead area.

Lead rules

Wodonga Council asks that dogs be on a lead, and they must be leashed around Gateway Village and the Gateway Lakes. The island is not a designated off-lead zone, so keep your dog on lead and under control throughout.

The walk

The trail is flat and easy on a mix of gravel and concrete paths. River red gums shade much of it, and sculptures by local Aboriginal artists stand along the way beside billabong views.

Water and facilities

Access points to the Murray River and Wodonga Creek let dogs cool off in the shallows. Parking is along the Lincoln Causeway, with toilets, picnic tables and seats nearby.

Pepsi: The shallow edges of the river and creek are the best bit. A long lead means I can paddle and you stay dry.
