The Queanbeyan-Oaks Estate Heritage walk links the old enclave of Oaks Estate with central Queanbeyan along the river corridors, about 3 km and an hour on foot. It crosses the ACT and NSW border, and the lead rules change along the way.
Leads and off-lead spots
Dogs stay on lead on the street sections and in Gillespie Park. Some stretches of the Molonglo and Queanbeyan river corridor have grassy clearings used for off-lead play, so let your dog off only where the signs allow it.
The walk
Surfaces change from footpath to mown grass to gravel and dirt. Along the way you pass the 1850s Queanbeyan Railway Bridge, old heritage cottages and the spot where the two rivers meet.
Mature trees shade parts of the route, especially around Gillespie Park, where you will find toilets and bins at the corner of Hazel and River streets. There is river access for a drink, but bring a bowl and water too.

An hour of mixed ground and history suits most dogs. Go in the cooler part of the day in summer.
