Percy Steel Reserve Walk

Percy Steel Reserve sits on the St Helens foreshore at Georges Bay Esplanade, and the reason to come is the view: open water, fishing boats, yachts and the marina. Dogs are welcome on a lead.

Leads on the foreshore

Break O'Day Council's dog rules require dogs on a lead in shared foreshore and reserve areas like this one. For off-lead time, the town has a fenced dog park, and Paddy's Island has a designated off-lead beach.

The walk

A paved shared path runs through grassed foreshore, with exercise equipment and picnic tables along the way. It is flat and easy, and close enough to the town centre to walk from.

Shade is limited, with a few mature trees but mostly open ground in full coastal sun. Bins line the Esplanade, and parking is right off Georges Bay Esplanade.

Pepsi: Taps are around the foreshore and town, but they are spread out. Pack a bowl and a bottle so nobody waits for a drink.

Make a day of it

Finish with a run on the sand at Paddy's Island off-lead dog beach.

When to go

Early morning is the pick, for sunrise over the bay and before the sun gets onto the open grass. It suits older dogs and anyone after a gentle stroll.
