Parramatta Park

Parramatta Park gives on-lead dogs about 85 hectares of sealed paths, river flats and colonial history on the western edge of the Parramatta CBD. The gate address is on Park Avenue in Westmead, but most of the park lies in Parramatta itself.

Lead rules

Dogs are welcome but must stay on a lead at all times. Greater Sydney Parklands manages the park through the Parramatta Park Trust.

The walk

Wide paved paths loop through open lawns and along the Parramatta River, shared with runners, cyclists and prams. Old Government House, built in the eighteenth century, sits along the way.

The Wistaria Gardens, mature trees and shaded riverbanks cover long stretches. Bubblers and refill stations sit near the main pavilions and cafes, and dog waste bins are spaced along the main loops.

Getting started

There are car parks inside the park and timed street parking around the perimeter. Spaces fill quickly on weekends and during major events.

Grab a coffee at Piccolo Me Westmead, or keep going downriver on the Parramatta Park to Rydalmere Ferry Wharf route.

Sealed paths the whole way make it an easy choice for older dogs. Weekday mornings avoid the weekend parking crush.
