Jim Soorley Bikeway

The Schulz Canal path runs along the tidal lower reach of Kedron Brook toward Moreton Bay and is officially part of the Jim Soorley Bikeway. It passes through Nundah, Toombul and Nudgee rather than Hendra itself, and dogs walk it on lead.

Lead rules

Brisbane City Council manages the path. Dogs are allowed, but they must be on a leash the entire time.

The walk

The shared path is sealed asphalt and concrete, so it is easy going for dogs of any age. As the canal widens toward Nudgee Beach, the view opens out to wetlands, shorebirds and mangrove-lined banks.

Max: Shorebirds feed right along the banks here. A short lead keeps them undisturbed and your dog out of the mud.

Sharing the path

This is a shared bikeway, so expect cyclists. Keep to one side and bring your dog in close when riders pass.

Pair it with

Back in Hendra, Brickhouse Cafe is close by for a coffee after the walk.

When to go

In summer, cooler mornings or late afternoons are the better choice. Bring water for the dog.
