Onkaparinga River Wetlands Loop

The wetlands on the river flats beside Seaford Heights are walked as the Onkaparinga River Wetlands Loop, inside Onkaparinga River Recreation Park. Dogs can come, but only on a lead no longer than 2 metres.

Lead rules

National Parks and Wildlife Service South Australia manages the park, and the lead rule applies at all times on the designated trails. Keep to the marked paths with your dog.

The walk

The loop mixes compacted gravel paths with raised timber boardwalk over the wetter ground. It is a wildlife walk first and foremost.

Black swans, pelicans and other waterbirds drift on the calm water, and you may spot western grey kangaroos resting under the river red gums.

Max: Kangaroos rest close to the track here. Keep the lead short and give them room.

Make a day of it

Afterwards, the Old Noarlunga Hotel is a dog-friendly pub stop, or head to Sean Power Dog Inn Park in Seaford Heights if your dog still needs an off-lead run.

When to go

Bring water for the dog and pick the cooler part of the day in summer. The loop suits calm dogs that are happy to watch wildlife from the end of a lead.
