Plenty River Trail

The Plenty River Trail follows the river valley from north of the Western Ring Road in Greensborough down through Yallambie, Lower Plenty, Viewbank and Montmorency. Dogs walk it on lead.

Lead rules

Banyule City Council manages the sealed urban sections and Parks Victoria the stretches heading south towards the Yarra. Along the shared path, dogs stay on a leash, except in the council off-lead reserves the trail passes.

The walk

Concrete paths run through the Banyule sections, turning to gravel and dirt in the Parks Victoria parts near the river. Tall gums, sports fields and pockets of bushland line the way, with plenty of birdlife and often eastern grey kangaroos.

The river corridor is well shaded. Bins cluster at the car parks and main entries, and taps are few along the lower sections, so bring water.

Max: Kangaroos graze along this trail. Keep the lead short and your dog's attention on you.

With so much shade, it works well on warm days. The sealed sections suit older dogs.
