Highlands Lake Accessible Walk

Highlands Lake Accessible Walk is a level loop around the reedy lake on Waterview Boulevard, built smooth enough for wheelchairs and prams. Dogs come along on a lead.

Lead rules

Hume City Council requires dogs to be on a lead at all times, and this is not an off-leash area.

The walk

Wide concrete paving with a few short boardwalk sections circles the lake past reeds and lawns. Ducks, swans and other waterbirds are everywhere, so a steady dog helps.

Shade comes and goes with scattered trees and picnic shelters, and much of the path is fully exposed. A drinking fountain stands near the playground, but carry water for the dog. Bins are spaced along the trail.

Getting started

The North Shore Drive car park has sealed, level spaces and a ramped concrete path onto the loop. The Highlands Waterside Cafe beside the lake is handy for a coffee.

For an off-lead run, Craigieburn Fenced Dog Park has separate zones, including a spot for little dogs.

A Saturday morning parkrun uses the lake, so pick another time if you want the path to yourself. The level surface suits older dogs well.
