Fishmarket Reserve

Fishmarket Reserve lines the upper Swan River in Guildford, off Swan Street West and Meares Street, with a riverbank trail of about 400 metres. Dogs are allowed, on a lead.

The walk

This is a short, gentle trail on natural earth and grass, with informal compacted tracks rather than pavement. Big old trees hang over the bank, and the river slides past between timber snags and grassy clearings.

Wide lawns open up beside the water, and the reserve is kept in a fairly natural state.

Lead rules

The City of Swan manages the reserve. It is not a signed off-lead exercise area, so keep your dog on lead.

Before you go

There is no water for dogs on the trail, so bring your own. Bins sit around the picnic areas, and there are no public toilets.

Gravel parking right by the water makes it an easy stop. Mature trees give patchy shade, though some lawn is open to the sun.

Make a day of it

Head into Guildford for coffee at The Lounge Room On James or Padbury's Cafe Restaurant.

Its short length and soft ground make it a relaxed morning or evening stroll for an older dog.
