Federal Park

Federal Park on Boscawen Street is central Wallsend's walk-in green space, now home to the upgraded Wallsend Active Hub. Dogs are welcome on lead.

Lead rules

The City of Newcastle requires dogs to be on lead at all times here, as the park is not an off-leash exercise area. Keep at least 10 metres from the playground.

The walk

Concrete and asphalt paths link the car park, sporting fields and play spaces. Along the way you pass open grass, modern play areas, sports courts and a busy pump track.

Mature shade trees and covered seating sit near the main facilities, and bins are around the park and playground. Bring water for the dog, as dog water on the circuit is not a given.

Parking is on site or on the street near Boscawen Street.

Max: The pump track and courts draw riders and kids. A short lead keeps things calm on the busy paths.

Make a day of it

Wallsend Dog Off-Leash Area is the local leash-free option, and Colliery Inn Wallsend NSW is nearby for a meal.

Who it suits

The flat, open grass and sealed paths suit older dogs, and it is easy to reach on foot from central Wallsend.
