Esme Lahey Environmental Park

Most rainforest on Tamborine Mountain is off limits to dogs, which is why Esme Lahey Environmental Park on Licuala Drive matters. Here leashed dogs are welcome on a flat, sealed forest path.

Lead rules

Dogs must stay on leash the whole way. Scenic Rim Regional Council manages the park, and Tamborine Mountain Landcare volunteers keep up the restoration work.

The walk

The path is tarred from start to finish and stays level, a rare thing on the mountain. It runs under a canopy of regenerating rainforest, with birdlife, skinks and small wildlife along the way.

That canopy shades almost the entire park, so it stays comfortable on warm days. Street parking is along Licuala Drive but spaces are limited.

Max: Pet water stations are scarce here, so bring water and a bowl, plus bags to carry out.

Make a day of it

Head into Eagle Heights for a coffee at Cafe 88 or NaMoo Cafe.

It suits older dogs and anyone after a gentle, shaded forest walk. Keep a short lead so the wildlife stays undisturbed.
