Eildon Pondage Walk

The Eildon Pondage Walk loops 6 km around the water beside Eildon township, flat and easy, with waterbirds, jetties and glimpses of the dam wall. Dogs are welcome on lead.

Lead rules

Murrindindi Shire Council manages the reserves around Eildon, and dogs must stay on a leash in these open spaces unless signs say otherwise.

Dogs are generally not permitted in the nearby Lake Eildon National Park, so keep to the pondage.

The walk

The surface is mostly compacted gravel and dirt, with some paved footpath and road-edge sections. It stays flat the whole way round.

Still water and birdlife keep a dog's nose busy, and the dam wall shows now and then across the pondage.

Getting started

Parking is close to the pondage edge and the recreation areas near the Goulburn Valley Highway and Riverside Drive. Bins sit near the picnic areas.

Some sections have mature trees, but the waterside and roadside stretches are open, so bring water and a bowl.

For a harder climb with a view, try the Mount Torbreck Summit Walk.

Cooler months and early mornings suit it best, given the exposed stretches. The gentle grade suits older dogs that are happy with a longer walk.
