Captain Cook Drive Pathway

A paved shared path runs beside Captain Cook Drive between Agnes Water and Seventeen Seventy, about 6 kilometres point to point, and dogs can walk it on a lead. It finishes near Air Sea Rescue Park on the Seventeen Seventy waterfront.

Lead rules

Gladstone Regional Council requires dogs on a leash along council footpaths and road reserves, which covers the whole path. For off-lead time, the SES grounds on Captain Cook Drive have a designated area, with care needed if ground-nesting birds are about.

The walk

The concrete path passes native coastal bushland, roadside views and local waterways, with firm footing all the way. Some sections have partial bush shade, but plenty of it is open to the midday sun.

There is parking near the Agnes Water shopping centre and at the Seventeen Seventy end.

Water and bins

Bins and facilities are at either end, around the shops and Air Sea Rescue Park, but water on the path itself is sparse. Carry a bottle and a bowl.

Max: It is 6 kilometres one way. Plan the return leg, or a lift, before you set off in the heat.

End the walk with a run at Seventeen Seventy Off-Leash Dog Beach.

Early morning is the time to go, before the open stretches heat up. Fit dogs will manage the full length; for older ones, walk out from one end and turn back.
