Burnley Park

More than six hectares of open lawn and mature trees above the Yarra River give Burnley Park a designated off-lead area within easy reach of Richmond. Yarra City Council manages the park at 150 Yarra Boulevard.

Where the lead goes on

Dogs can be off lead in the designated area. Clip on within 10 metres of playgrounds and barbecue or picnic areas, and keep dogs out of playgrounds at all times.

The sporting ovals are off limits to dogs while training or matches are on.

The walk

Paved paths and gravel shared paths run between the lawns and ovals, with lookouts over the river. Keep an eye out for the historic Corroboree Tree among the park's heritage trees.

Water and shade

Drinking taps are in the park grounds and bins are spread through the reserve. Mature trees shade much of the grass.

Parking is on the surrounding streets, with access points near Bridge Road and Swan Street.

When to go

Aim for times when the ovals are free of bookings, because that is when the park feels biggest. A summer morning under the trees suits most dogs.
